Having sex is just one part of anyone's life.
Most people spend a lot more time doing other things.
What does it mean to be G-L-B-T? These categories are not rigid. Someone who identifies as straight may have same-sex fantasies. A gay man may have been married to a woman in the past, or still married to a woman. A woman who thinks of herself as straight may become sexually involved with another woman...

Is it normal to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender?
Yes. Being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is normal and healthy. It is as normal for a gay person to be gay as it is for a straight person to be straight. GLBT people are found in every race, ethnicity and social class.
Why are some people gay and some people straight?
No one knows for sure why some people are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. But many researchers believe it is just part of who a person is - like being tall or short.
When do people know they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender?
Many people know from a very young age. Others discover more about their identity later in life. Because GLBT people sometimes face discrimination or violence just for being who they are, some people hide that part of themselves for protection.
What does it mean to 'Come Out'?
Coming out is the process of a person accepting that they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, and telling the people in their lives. People choose to come out so that they do not have to hide that part of themselves. For more information on Coming Out...click HERE.
What about discrimination?
Because of prejudice, GLBT people are sometimes discriminated against in jobs and housing. They may also be targets of violence. Forty percent of gay youth have been threatened with violence. About 25% have been attacked. Many gay teens are forced to leave home because their families don't accept them. Discrimination and violence are two of the hardest things GLBT people have to deal with.
Can GLBT people be successful - in spite of discrimination?
Yes. Gay lesbian, bisexual and transgender people can find success and happiness in their lives. GLBT people have friends, family, good jobs, community support and respect, just like straight people.
